The annual Rogers Scholarship reception was held on October 1 at the Tommy Bahama Miramonte Resort & Spa in Indian Wells to honor the 2024-25 Rogers Scholars from Cal State San Bernardino's Palm Desert Campus. The event provided an opportunity for scholarship recipients to meet members of the Rogers family, who have been supporting PDC students with scholarships since 1994.
Edna Martinez, associate vice president at CSUSB Palm Desert Campus, welcomed attendees and introduced the Rogers family. Ray Watts, associate vice president for the Office of Philanthropic Giving, expressed gratitude to the family for their ongoing support and offered motivational remarks to the students present. Avi Rodriguez, executive director of Student Engagement and Completion at PDC, served as the emcee.
“We are incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of our Rogers Scholarship recipients,” said Martinez. “This prestigious program reflects our commitment to fostering academic excellence, leadership and community engagement. These students embody the qualities that make our institution strong, and we are excited to support their continued growth and success as they pursue their educational and professional aspirations.”
Scholarship recipients received a special ring and delivered brief speeches thanking the Mary Stuart Rogers Foundation and others who contributed to their success. This year's scholars include Jasmin Nichols (Nursing), Adriana Oliva (Nursing), MariaElena Pantoja (Nursing), Logan Salabaj (English Literature), Shekaila Alvez (Nursing), Reyna Dominguez (Psychology), Shawn Fisher (Psychology), Stephanie Grantell (Psychology), Andrea Pass (Nursing), and Crystal Romero (Psychology and Spanish).
The Mary Stuart Rogers Scholarship Fund supports undergraduate and graduate students at CSUSB Palm Desert Campus by providing financial assistance. Recipients are selected based on merit, demonstrating personal growth commitment, outstanding academic performance, leadership qualities, and a desire to serve fellow students and communities.
Since its inception, over $2 million has been awarded through the Rogers Scholarship program at CSUSB Palm Desert Campus. The scholars join a group of past recipients who have made significant contributions across various fields.
