Nicole Kidman to receive international star award at Palm Springs Film Awards

The Palm Springs International Film Awards has announced Nicole Kidman as the recipient of the International Star Award for her performance in "Babygirl." The awards ceremony is scheduled for January 3, 2025, at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The event will be presented by Silvercrest and sponsored by Entertainment Tonight.

Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi praised Kidman's role in "Babygirl," stating, “Nicole Kidman once again showcases her unmatched talent for embracing bold and unexpected roles with remarkable ease. In Babygirl, she portrays a high-powered CEO whose life begins to unravel as she embarks on a dark, risky affair that threatens to shatter her carefully constructed world.” He added that they are honored to present her with the award, which truly embodies Nicole Kidman.

This year’s honorees also include Adrien Brody receiving the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor; Conclave's Ensemble Performance Award presented to actors Ralph Fiennes, Isabella Rossellini, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Lucian Msamati; Colman Domingo with the Spotlight Award, Actor; Mikey Madison with the Breakthrough Performance Award; and Emilia Pérez's Vanguard Award presented to director Jacques Audiard and actors Karla Sofia Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez and Edgar Ramírez.

Kidman has previously received this award for her role in "Lion," which led to an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Past recipients of this accolade include Carey Mulligan, Michelle Yeoh, Penélope Cruz, Helen Mirren, Saoirse Ronan and Charlize Theron. Yeoh won an Academy Award for Best Actress following her recognition at Palm Springs.

In "Babygirl," Kidman plays Romy—a CEO who risks everything through an affair with a younger intern. Her character balances career pressures and personal turmoil within a male-dominated field. Harris Dickinson stars alongside Antonio Banderas and Sophie Wilde in supporting roles.

Kidman's illustrious career includes numerous accolades such as an Academy Award for portraying Virginia Woolf in "The Hours" among others. She is known for diverse roles across film genres including titles like "Moulin Rouge!" and "Being The Ricardos."

In television work like HBO’s series "Big Little Lies," Kidman earned multiple awards including Emmys. Her recent projects involve acting and producing roles in shows such as "Nine Perfect Strangers" and upcoming series like "The Perfect Couple."

The Palm Springs International Film Society organizes these annual events aimed at promoting film culture through various festivals including PSIFF's Oscar-qualifying ShortFest—the largest short film festival market in North America.
