The Palm Springs International Film Awards has announced Timothée Chalamet as the recipient of the Chairman’s Award for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in "A Complete Unknown," directed by James Mangold. The award ceremony is scheduled for January 3, 2025, at the Palm Springs Convention Center. This event is part of a festival running from January 2-13, 2025, presented by Silvercrest and sponsored by Entertainment Tonight.
Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi commented on Chalamet's performance: “Timothée Chalamet embodies one of the most iconic figures in music history with his extraordinary performance as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.” He added that Chalamet showcases both physical and vocal talents, bringing depth to the role likely to gain further award recognition.
Chalamet has been previously recognized by the festival with awards such as the Rising Star Award in 2018 for "Call Me By Your Name" and the Spotlight Award in 2019 for "Beautiful Boy." Notable past recipients of the Chairman’s Award include Billie Eilish, Finneas O’Connell, Amy Adams, George Clooney, Viola Davis, Tom Hanks, Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Regina King, Gary Oldman, and Reese Witherspoon.
This year’s other honorees include Adrien Brody receiving the Desert Palm Achievement Award (Actor), an Ensemble Performance Award for Conclave featuring Ralph Fiennes and others; Kieran Culkin with a Breakthrough Performance Award (Actor); Colman Domingo with a Spotlight Award (Actor); Angelina Jolie receiving the Desert Palm Achievement Award (Actress), Nicole Kidman with an International Star Award; Mikey Madison with a Breakthrough Performance Award (Actress); and Emilia Pérez receiving a Vanguard Award alongside director Jacques Audiard and actors Karla Sofia Gascón and others.
"A Complete Unknown" follows Bob Dylan's rise amid New York's vibrant music scene during 1961. Chalamet stars alongside Edward Norton as Pete Seeger and Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo. The film portrays Dylan's revolutionary impact on American music through intimate relationships within Greenwich Village.
Timothée Chalamet became one of the youngest nominees for Best Actor at the Oscars since 1939 for his role in "Call Me By Your Name." His credits also include roles in Oscar-nominated films like "Lady Bird," "Little Women," "Dune," and more. He is currently working on Josh Safdie’s project "Marty Supreme."
