The ABC Recovery Center in Indio is expanding its facilities to provide new services and reach more individuals in the recovery process. This expansion is being supported by a $300,000 grant from county funds, secured by Supervisor V. Manuel Perez.

“ABC Recovery Center is a beacon in the Coachella Valley, helping folks who are in recovery to receive mental health services and rehabilitation services,” said Supervisor Perez. “These resources will have a major impact in a positive way to deal with the issue of homelessness, and the needs for housing, behavioral health services and recovery. I am proud to find these extra dollars for the ABC Recovery Center.”

The center has been serving the community since 1963 and has grown with advancements in medical treatment for addiction. Chris Yingling, Chief Executive Officer of ABC Recovery Center, expressed gratitude for the grant: “ABC Recovery Center is profoundly grateful to Supervisor V. Manuel Perez and his office for awarding us this extraordinary $300,000 grant in support of our expansion project. This generous funding goes above and beyond what we could have anticipated, reflecting an exceptional commitment to our mission."

Nationwide statistics highlight the critical need for such services: 178,000 people die from excessive alcohol use annually, along with 110,000 drug-related deaths each year. In Riverside County alone, one life is lost daily on average due to alcohol-related causes.

In 2022, California invested significantly in substance use programs as part of its Behavioral Health Continuing Infrastructure Program. The ABC Recovery Center received $27 million from this initiative but was required to contribute a 10 percent funding match.

Currently developing a 5.9-acre parcel on its campus with seven new buildings and 120 treatment beds planned, this expansion will allow them to increase their service capacity by over 160 percent.

The additional county funds will cover infrastructure costs not included in the state grant—such as power upgrades and alley repaving—with collaboration from local entities like the City of Indio and Imperial Irrigation District helping reduce expenses.

Completion of this project is expected by mid-2026 as ABC Recovery Center continues fundraising efforts while keeping community members informed through press conferences about ongoing developments.
