The City of Cathedral City is seeking applicants for the position of Fire Engineer. This role involves operating fire apparatus and equipment, transporting crew to emergency scenes, and responding to various emergency and non-emergency situations to protect life and property. The position includes additional support assignments related to emergency response activities.
Candidates must meet a range of qualifications, including a combination of experience and training. A standard pathway to acquire the necessary skills involves completing high school or obtaining a GED, with additional studies in Fire Science or a related field, along with two years of experience in fire suppression and prevention within municipal, county, tribal, or special district fire services.
Applicants must possess the ability or already have a valid California Class B driver license, or a Class C license with a firefighter endorsement, and must maintain a satisfactory driving record. Successful completion of the California State Fire Training Apparatus Driver/Operator courses, possession of a CPR certification, and a valid State of California Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic certification are also required. Eligibility to work under Riverside County protocols and completion of a task book during the probationary period is necessary.
Firefighters seeking this position must be prepared to work scheduled shifts and should already have or be certified as Firefighter I and II. Experience as a Fire Engineer is considered advantageous but not mandatory.
Another condition includes residing within 150 miles of Cathedral City by the end of the probationary period, as determined by Google Maps.
