Today, Congressman Ken Calvert, representing California's 41st district, voted in alignment with a majority of his colleagues in the House of Representatives to pass the Senate Amendment to House Concurrent Resolution 14. This decision, with a close vote of 216 to 214, advances the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Resolution and activates the budget reconciliation process. This process is essential as it allows future tax and spending legislation to be approved by a simple majority vote in the Senate.

Rep. Calvert emphasized the importance of the vote, stating, “Today’s vote moves us one step closer to preventing a massive tax increase on American families and job creators.” He noted the potential implications for local families, "The last thing Riverside County families can afford is a huge tax increase, which is exactly what will happen if Congress fails to extend the tax cuts that are expiring this year." Additionally, Calvert highlighted that Republicans intend to utilize the reconciliation process to enhance national security by equipping the military and securing the southern border.

The congressman criticized Democrats for their stance on tax policies and border security, accusing them of misleading the public. He reassured constituents that, “Let me be crystal clear – nothing approved by the House today changes any benefits for our safety net programs, including Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans’ benefits.”

Calvert's vote reflects his commitment to alleviating tax pressures on American families and bolstering national security, as highlighted in his public statements.
