The Firebirds managed an overtime win against the Abbotsford Canucks in game two of the Calder Cup Playoffs, concluding with a score of 5-4. Jacob Melanson's goal five minutes into overtime brought Coachella Valley back to equal in the series at 1-1.

The Firebirds started strong with a goal from Gustav Olofsson just past the three-minute mark in the first period, assisted by a clean faceoff win by Ben Meyers. Ty Nelson added to the lead with his first AHL playoff goal, extending the lead to two. Logan Morrison and Jagger Firkus provided assists in the process. Max Lajoie completed the three-goal streak with a late first-period goal that ended Arturs Silovs' stint in goal for the Canucks, bringing in Nikita Tolopilo at the start of the second period.

Abbotsford retaliated with two goals in quick succession early in the second, reducing the Firebirds' lead. Goals by Phil Di Giuseppe and Nate Smith brought the Canucks within one point. Jujhar Khaira equalized for Abbotsford before adding another to give them their first lead during the third period.

Ben Meyers later leveled the game for the Firebirds with four minutes remaining, forcing the contest into overtime. Jacob Melanson capitalized on an error by Nikita Tolopilo, taking possession of the puck and securing the victory for Coachella Valley in overtime.

Nikke Kokko guarded the net with 26 saves out of 30 shots, while the Firebirds displayed efficiency on the defensive end, going 2-for-2 on penalty kills despite failing to convert on their one power play attempt. The Firebirds had a narrow advantage in shots, recording 31 against Abbotsford's 30.

The series now shifts to Abbotsford, where the teams will meet for Game Three on May 7 at the Abbotsford Events Centre.

Community events and promotions are planned, including merchandise giveaways and fan meet-ups at various local establishments in Coachella, Palm Desert, and beyond. Additionally, premium seating and ticket packages continue to be promoted as the Firebirds advance in the playoffs.
