The Coachella Valley Firebirds have confirmed the re-signing of forward Ian McKinnon to a two-year contract, extending through the 2026-27 season. The announcement was made on June 30, 2025.
McKinnon, aged 27, initially joined the Firebirds during their inaugural season in 2022. He recently completed a career-high season with 11 points over 53 games for Coachella Valley and has accumulated 417 penalty minutes across 130 AHL games.
Troy Bodie, Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Coachella Valley Firebirds, expressed enthusiasm about McKinnon's return: "We are excited to bring Ian back into the fold in our organization. Ian has been a role player for this team dating back to our inaugural season and has been an important part of our culture. He is a known member of our community, both on and off the ice, and we are looking forward to having him in our corner over the next two seasons."
Before his time with Coachella Valley, McKinnon played with the Providence Bruins in the AHL and spent parts of three seasons in the ECHL with the Jacksonville IceMen and Maine Mariners. His junior hockey career included playing for the London Knights and Mississauga Steelheads in the Ontario Hockey League.
