The Coachella Valley Firebirds have announced the signing of defenseman Gustav Olofsson to a two-year contract with the American Hockey League (AHL), extending through the 2026-27 season. This marks Olofsson's fourth season with the team.
Olofsson, who is 30 years old, was previously under an NHL contract with the Seattle Kraken. During his time with the Firebirds, he has played in 122 regular-season games, scoring 35 points, including five goals and 30 assists. He has also participated in 50 postseason games.
“We are pleased to bring Gustav back on a two-year contract,” stated Troy Bodie, Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Coachella Valley Firebirds. “Gustav is a hard-working player and a leader in our locker room. He has engrained himself in the community and we are happy to have him on our backend.”
Originally from Boras, Sweden, Olofsson has experience playing in 63 NHL games for teams such as the Seattle Kraken, Montreal Canadiens, and Minnesota Wild. He was selected by Minnesota in the second round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Additionally, he has played AHL games for Laval Rocket and Iowa Wild.
Before turning professional, Olofsson spent one season playing NCAA Division-I hockey at Colorado College and two years in the United States Hockey League with Green Bay Gamblers. In 2014, he represented Sweden at the U20 World Junior Championship.
