Palm Springs City Council candidate Jeffrey Bernstein recently pledged his support for the construction of more affordable housing at a campaign kick-off event. He also said the council would benefit from the perspective of a small business owner such as himself.

Bernstein is seeking a District 2 council seat currently held by Dennis Woods, who did not immediately respond when asked about plans for re-election, according to The Desert Sun. Bernstein's key issues are inclusionary housing, soaring home prices, and the perspective he can offer as a small business owner.

"As a city council member, I will propose that we have an inclusionary housing ordinance that ensures that new developments have affordable and moderate-income housing for all," Bernstein said.

Bernstein owns Destination PSP, a small gift shop in downtown Palm Springs, The Desert Sun reported. He also chairs the city's Measure J Commission, overseeing the use of Measure J funds.

Bernstein said that as a candidate, he can bring the unique perspective of a current small business owner to the council, which will be valuable in identifying the challenges faced by Palm Springs residents.

"The scope is not just limited to the economy, but all aspects of our quality of life," Bernstein said to The Desert Sun, further identifying skyrocketing home prices as a major issue for the city.
