The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit was active over the 4th of July weekend, deploying patrol vessels along the Colorado River. The focus was on public safety and education, with a zero-tolerance approach in place. The operation spanned from the Imperial County Line to the San Bernardino County Line.

During this period, eight citations were issued for violations of California boating laws. Ten vessel safety equipment inspections were conducted, several warnings were given, one vessel was ordered off the water, and 44 resort checks were carried out.

"The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Colorado River Station is dedicated to the safety of our community and wants to ensure that everyone on our waterways has safe and enjoyable holiday weekends," stated a representative from the office. For boating-related inquiries, Sgt. Berryman can be contacted at (760) 921–7900.

The upcoming Fourth of July holiday will see increased patrols by the Marine Enforcement Unit due to historically high vessel traffic and incidents involving impaired operators. "This will be a 'zero tolerance' weekend for all personal watercraft (PWC) and boating related violations," emphasized an official statement. Patrols will utilize portable breath testing devices to detect alcohol-impaired operators.

For further information about safe boating practices in California, individuals are encouraged to visit The Department of Boating and Waterways education website.

In addition to marine enforcement, extra patrol units will target illegal fireworks use within Riverside County during this period. All fireworks are prohibited in the county due to fire risks that result in significant damage annually. Residents are advised instead to attend local legal fireworks shows like those hosted by Blythe Fire Department at Colorado River Fairgrounds.

"If you see someone using illegal fireworks, please report it," urged officials. More details can be found on their FIREWORKS PAGE.
