The College of the Desert men's tennis team got off to a strong start in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional playoffs with a first-round win, defeating 7th-seed Santa Barbara City College 9-0 on April 5.

"College of Desert men's tennis rolls in playoffs, sweeps No. 7 Vaqueros, 9-0," the college said in an April 6 tweet.

The COD Roadrunners are the No. 1 seed in the playoffs after finishing their regular season 15-0, a recent report on the school's website said. The school won the 2019 state championship and still holds the title because there were no state championships held in 2020 or 2021.

The Roadrunners team that competed in the first round of this year's tournament is made up entirely of freshmen, the report said. The team of six, both in doubles and as singles, won all its matches against Santa Barbara to roll in dominating fashion, 9-0, in the first round.

The next match for COD's men's tennis team will be at home against the No.2-seed Irvine Valley Lasers at 2 p.m. on April 12, the report said.
