The women's tennis team, comprised of entirely freshmen, at College of the Desert (COD) is advancing to the finals of the regional playoffs after beating the No. 2 seeded Riverside City Tigers 5-3 on Tuesday. Dominating the playoffs so far, the COD team has displayed what the school's website calls "a magic touch."
“COD (7-3) women's tennis continues their magic touch as they headed to the road again, upsetting the No. 2 seeded Riverside City Tigers (11-3), 5-3,” COD's athletics website reports.
According to a COD article, the school's women’s tennis team has advanced to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs for the first time since 2016. Their tournament placement is the No. 5 seed.
Also, to their credit, the team struck fast during the first round of playoffs to upset the No. 4 seed, College of the Canyons Cougars of Santa Clarita, 6-3. This victory moved the COD Roadrunners into second round, the COD article reports.
The Roadrunners' next competition is set for April 19 against the top seeded El Camino Warriors, according to COD. There is no admission cost.
