An investigation by the Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team into multiple incidents of mail theft in Rancho Mirage led to the recent arrest of two suspects from that city.

"Between the nine victims identified, they sustained an estimated loss of $17,842," Deputy Robert Kelly said in a news release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. "SET members served a residential search warrant and located an additional 46 stolen checks, along with numerous other identity theft-related items."

According to Kelly, SET made a break-through Wednesday into mail thefts that took place in Rancho Mirage between Jan. 20 and June 17 as they identified two local residents as suspects: John Fisher, 38, and Thea Rich, 32.

Following a search of their residence, both Fisher and Rich were arrested and subsequently booked into the John Benoit Detention Center for several felony charges.

"Suspects in our communities will be apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest for committing crimes and stealing mail in our county," Kelly said in his report.

Anyone who may have additional information on the case is encouraged to contact Deputy Kelly from the Special Enforcement Team at the Palm Desert Station at 760-836-1633 or 760-836-1623.
