A Coachella father, who was allegedly driving while intoxicated on Sunday morning, crashed into a light post and fence while his 2-year-old son was in the car, unbuckled, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said.
According to Deputy Sgt. Matthew Allert, the child sustained mild injuries in the accident, which happened at approximately 12:30 a.m. in the area of Tyler Street and Avenue 53. As a precaution, the boy was taken to a nearby hospital. No other injuries were reported, Allert said.
At the scene of the accident, deputies located a white pickup truck that had struck both a fence and a light post and identified the driver as Alexander Felix, 22, of Coachella.
"Felix’s 2-year-old son was also inside the vehicle, unrestrained at the time of the collision," Allert said.
During the investigation, deputies determined that Allert was driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the release.
Consequently, Felix was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center in the city of Indio for driving under the influence and child endangerment, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
