A 24-year-old Indio woman was arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting outside a Palm Desert motel.
Sgt. Daniel Milbrandt identified the suspect as Priscilla Guzman in a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Guzman is being held at the John Benoit Detention Center; bail was set at $1 million. The victim was found with a single gunshot wound on Jan. 8. Milbrandt did not comment on a motive for the shooting.
Deputies responded at 2 a.m. on Jan. 8 to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, the press release noted. The incident occurred at a motel in the 78100 block of Varner Road in unincorporated Palm Desert. The victim received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Personnel from the Palm Desert Investigations Bureau, Palm Desert Burglary Suppression Unit, Fugitive Warrant Enforcement Team, and Gang Task Force worked together on Jan. 10 to apprehend Guzman, according to the press release. She was arrested at a residence in the 84100 block of Avenue 48 in Indio. Evidence pointing to Guzman as the shooter was found during the execution of several search warrants at homes in Indio and Thermal, Milbrandt said.
