The city of Indio, California, has launched its newly-revamped volunteer program and invited members of the community to sign up for different ways to make a difference close to home.
Local officials are spreading the news through an updated website and brochures where residents can make use of opportunities for volunteer work with the city, the Indio Police Department and/or the Indio Senior Center, according to a news release on the municipal website. "Keep Indio Beautiful" is the message on the new call to action for volunteers.
The city took to Twitter with the invite, "Join Indio's newly revamped volunteer program. You can make a difference in our community in various ways, like creating new connections, finding your passion and making a difference."
According to the city, which announced the updated program Monday, this is a unique opportunity to create new connections, help with important causes, explore the city and much more.
To get started, residents are invited to submit an application, which depending on the volunteer opportunity, may require a background check and drug screening. In guidelines for volunteers, the city says prospective volunteers under 18 will need a parental signature on the physical application.
Additionally, applicants can fill out a checklist of assignment preferences. For those who are handy, there is painting, litter pickup, clean-ups, repairs and landscaping/gardening. Others can purse tutoring and instructing, coaching, organizing, assisting with events and activities, and/or helping those with special needs.
Additional information regarding specific volunteer assignments for the Indio Senior Center can be found on the city's website. To volunteer with the Indio Police Department check out this website.
According to the volunteer brochure, those who wish to contact the city regarding the program can call 760-391-4069, or email jramirez@indio.org.
