Riverside County sheriff: 'Deputies responded to the report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian hit-and-run traffic collision'

Riverside County Sheriff's Palm Desert Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating a hit-and-run incident that killed an unidentified pedestrian in Palm Desert this week, according to a press release.

"On Wednesday, Aug. 9, about 10:16 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Palm Desert Station responded to the report of a vehicle versus pedestrian hit-and-run traffic collision at Country Club Drive and Barrington Drive, in the City of Palm Desert," the press release stated. "Deputies arrived on scene and located the victim in the roadway of the eastbound lanes of Country Club Drive. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene."

The identity of the victim has not been released yet, pending notification of next of kin.

"Deputies arrived on scene and located the victim in the roadway of the eastbound lanes of Country Club Drive," Sgt. Matt Martinez said. "The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Palm Desert Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation. There is no suspect in custody and it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the collision."

The collision occurred at the intersection of Country Club Drive and Barrington Drive at approximately 10:16 p.m. The only information released about the victim is that he was a 48-year-old male from Palm Desert. The department has not released any information regarding the vehicle that hit the man.

Martinez said an active investigation into the incident is ongoing. Anyone who may have information regarding the hit-and-run is urged to contact Deputy Broughton at the Palm Desert Sheriff's Station at 760-836-1600.
