The Dune Palms Road northbound bridge in La Quinta, which has been closed since being washed out during intense storms in September 2023, is set to open to through traffic on Mon., April 29, 2024. According to the press release, "This milestone marks a significant advancement in the ongoing bridge infrastructure project and re-opens Dune Palms Road."
The newly constructed bridge will provide one northbound traffic lane, one southbound traffic lane, and a new sidewalk for pedestrians, making Dune Palms Road accessible to both motorists and pedestrians between Highway 111 and Blackhawk Way/Westward Ho. The completion of the project will transform Dune Palms Road into a four-lane roadway with two northbound and two southbound lanes, a dedicated bicycle lane, and sidewalks for pedestrians, providing a safe crossing over the Coachella Valley Storm Water Channel.
Construction on the southbound/western bridge span will continue through Spring 2025, parallel to the northbound/eastern bridge. Motorists are urged to reduce speed and travel with caution through the construction zone. Currently, construction crews are focused on the beginning stages of the southbound bridge, including the bridge support system, abutments, and the construction of temporary bridge falsework.
