Palm Springs Aerial Tramway announces extended hours for Fourth of July

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway will operate with extended hours on July 4 and 5 in observance of the Fourth of July holiday. On Thursday, July 4, the first tramcar up will be at 8:00 a.m., the last tramcar up will be at 8:00 p.m., and the last tramcar down will be at 9:30 p.m. On Friday, July 5, the first tramcar up will be at 8:00 a.m., the last tramcar up will be at 9:00 p.m., and the last tramcar down will be at 10:30 p.m.

Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile Virus in Rancho Mirage

Six mosquito samples from routine collection sites and extra surveillance traps have tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) this week in Coachella Valley, California. This brings the total number of WNV-positive samples to 97 for 2024. One sample was collected near the intersection of Bob Hope Drive and Palm Crest Drive in Rancho Mirage, while additional positive samples were found in Thermal.

West Nile Virus detected in La Quinta and Palm Desert for first time in 2024

The detection of West Nile Virus (WNV) positive mosquito samples continues in the Coachella Valley. For the first time in 2024, mosquitoes from routine collection sites in southeast La Quinta and Palm Desert tested positive. The samples were collected from traps near Madison St. and Avenue 52 (La Quinta), Monroe St. and Ave 60 (La Quinta), and Fred Waring Dr. and Warner Trail (Palm Desert). Additionally, a trap in Indio at Jackson and Avenue 50 yielded one positive sample. Multiple traps in Mecca, Thermal, and Oasis also continued to show positive results this week.
